Andrew Morrison enlisted on January 1, 1862 as captain of Company H, 26th Illinois Infantry. On February 16, he was made regimental chaplain, serving until August 10th, 1863, resigning to become Lt Colonel of the 57th US Colored Troops. He was promoted to Colonel of the 57th USCT on June 1, 1864, but resigned on October 22 due to health reasons.
