Helped raise the 123rd New York Infantry, served as its first chaplain. Enlisted on 8/22/1862 at Salem, NY as a Chaplain. On 9/10/1862 he was commissioned into Field & Staff, NY 123rd Infantry
He was discharged on 4/18/1863.
