Official record: Residence East Boston MA; a 35 year-old Clergyman. Enlisted on 5/27/1861 as a Chaplain. On 5/27/1861 he was commissioned into Field & Staff MA 1st Infantry He was Mustered Out on 5/28/1864.
Cudworth was with the unit for its entire tour of duty, seeing action at 1st and 2nd Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness and Spotsylvania Court House.
